Fifa 2006 Tactics
Date:- November 4th, 2005Overview
Below you will see the most popular formations. It is advised that you stick to two or three formations so that you get used to them. The main reason for this is, so that when you pass the ball off screen you know exactly where your players are. Feel free to experiment with all the options such as the in match tactics like attack, defend, wing play, off side trap etc.
4-4-2
This is the standard set up for many life football teams. Infact id say that over 80% of football teams around the world play with a 4-4-2 formation. In Fifa it can work well but it restricts your options up front. Its very hard to play through the middle as the forwards always seem to be out numbered by defenders. The best way to play this formation is to use the width of the pitch and score from crosses. Putting the oppression setting to Wing Play- 'WP' by using the left joypad can help.
4-3-3
This option is favoured by many Xbox Live players. It give more options up front aswell as being a formation that you can defend well with. The three strikers up front allows you to attack from both the wings and down the middle.
5-2-1-2
When an opposing player is attacking down the wings and getting many crosses in the box, this formation can counter act that. You have to full backs that are always in the wide defensive areas to tackle the opposing wingers. Any other formation with five at the back will help your opponent getting crosses in, but this formation gives the best attacking options in our opinion. With the 1 man 'floating' between your opponents defense and midfield it is a lot easier to get that 'killer' through ball through to the 2 attackers in front of him.
4-2-4
This is a formation that is all out attack but can leave you vulnerable at the back. If your philosophy is ' you score 4 we will score 5' then this formation may suit you. You will many options upfront when you are running from midfield. However sometimes it is hard to get the ball up to your 4 attacking players because of only 2 players in midfield. If you are losing badly you have nothing to lose to set your formation to 4-2-4 as it really is the best way to score goals.
4-1-2-1-2
This formation works well for both defending and attacking. It does however make your play very narrow and straight down the middle. With the diamond formation you have a player sitting in front of the defense, so it restricts the opposition from playing balls into their strikers located centrally. Attacking wise it allows a man floating between your opponents midfield and defense and to put that deadly through ball to your 2 strikers.
Test
There are other formations that Xbox Live players use but these seem to be the best and most effective. Feel free to test out various others but your time would be better spent sticking to 2 or 3 of these formations and getting used to them.
